Interferon Alpha Inducible Protein 27 Like Protein 2 (IFI27L2)

By searching for genes encoding proteins similar to 6-16 (IFI6) and ISG12 (IFI27), Parker and Porter (2004) identified FAM14A. The deduced 130-amino acid protein has a calculated molecular mass of 12.4 kD. Like other ISG12 family members, it contains a conserved 80-amino acid ISG12 motif. Parker and Porter (2004) noted that there are 2 Isg12b genes in mouse, Isg12b1 and Isg12b2, which encode proteins of 90 and 283 amino acids, respectively.

Using semiquantitative RT-PCR, Parker and Porter (2004) found that Isg12b1 and Isg12b2 were responsive to interferon in a mouse fibroblast cell line. However, ISG12B in a human fibroblast cell line was not induced by interferon, despite the proximity of a putative interferon-stimulated response element.
