Coatomer Protein Complex Subunit Beta 1 (COPb1)

[Edit]

Beta-COP; Beta-coat protein

Coatomer Protein Complex Subunit Beta 1 (COPb1)
COPb1 encodes a protein subunit of the coatomer complex associated with non-clathrin coated vesicles. The coatomer complex forms in the cytoplasm and is recruited to the Golgi by activated guanosine triphosphatases. Once at the Golgi membrane, the coatomer complex may assist in the movement of protein and lipid components back to the endoplasmic reticulum. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described. These adaptor complexes contain a number of components, including the alpha-, beta-, and gamma-adaptins. A similar set of proteins, namely, alpha-COP (160 kD), beta-COP (110 kD), gamma-COP (98 kD), and delta-COP (61 kD), is associated with the non-clathrin-coated vesicles, which have been suggested to be involved in intra-Golgi transport and transport from the ER to the Golgi complex.
