Brain Specific Angiogenesis Inhibitor 3 (BAI3)
Brain-specific angiogenesis inhibitors are G-protein coupled receptors belonging to the class B secretin subfamily. Might be involved in angiogenesis inhibition and suppression of glioblastoma.Strongly expressed in brain. Also detected in heart. Reduced expression is observed in some glioblastoma cell lines. BAI1, a p53-target gene, encodes brain-specific angiogenesis inhibitor, a seven-span transmembrane protein and is thought to be a member of the secretin receptor family. Brain-specific angiogenesis proteins BAI2 and BAI3 are similar to BAI1 in structure, have similar tissue specificities and may also play a role in angiogenesis. C1ql proteins are secreted signaling molecules that bind to BAI3 and act, at least in part, to regulate synapse formation and/or maintenance.
