IPO38; HMG14; Non-histone chromosomal protein HMG-14

High Mobility Group Nucleosome Binding Domain Protein 1 (HMGN1)

Chromosomal protein HMG14 and its close analog HMG17 bind to the inner side of the nucleosomal DNA, potentially altering the interaction between the DNA and the histone octamer. The 2 proteins may be involved in the process that maintains transcribable genes in a unique chromatin conformation.

IPO-38 antigen is present in the nuclei of proliferating cells such as Hodgkin's disease and non-Hodgkin's lymphomas, different forms of leukemias, breast and colorectal carcinomas, and PHA-stimulated lymphocytes. It is not expressed in the cells of non-stimulated lymphocytes and granulocytes. IPO-38 can be a useful marker of cell proliferation during monitoring of tumor progression.IPO-38 is identified as a novel serum biomarker of gastric cancer.
