Signaling Lymphocytic Activation Molecule Family, Member 5 (SLAMF5)

CD84 encodes a 328-amino acid protein that is shortened to 307 amino acids after cleavage of the signal peptide. The protein has 4 potential N-linked and 29 potential O-linked glycosylation sites. The observed molecular mass on SDS-PAGE is 64 to 82 kD, which endoglycosidase treatment reduces to 46 kD and 36 kD products, close to the calculated mass of approximately 35 kD. In addition to a 25-amino acid transmembrane region and an 83-amino acid cytoplasmic region, CD84 has a 189-amino acid extracellular segment composed of 2 Ig-like domains similar to that found in other members of the CD2 family. Northern blot analysis revealed mRNA expression of a 4.4-kb transcript at high levels in lymphoid tissue and at lower levels in lung; no expression was found in liver.
