Mannose Receptor C Type 2 (MRC2)

MRC2 is a recycling endocytic receptor that functions in cell motility and remodeling of the extracellular matrix by promoting cell migration and uptake of collagens for intracellular degradation (Wienke et al., 2007).

By sequencing clones obtained from a size-fractionated human brain cDNA library, Ishikawa et al. (1998) cloned MRC2, which they called KIAA0709. The deduced 1,479-amino acid protein was predicted to have a role in cell signaling. RT-PCR detected ubiquitous expression of MRC2, with highest levels in lung, heart, kidney, skeletal muscle, testis, and ovary.UPARAP formed a trimolecular complex of the surface of U937 or vascular smooth muscle cells following incubation with pro-urokinase. UPARAP bound specifically to collagen V , but exhibited little or no binding to other types of collagen.
